About
Al-Kahf is a mountain fortress in the Sheikh Badr area north-east of Tartus, one of the main castles of the Nizari Ismailis; their leader Rashid ad-Din Sinan died here in 1193. It was the last of their Syrian strongholds to fall, taken by Sultan Baybars in 1273.
