About
Amrit is an ancient Phoenician city on the coast about 7 km south of Tartus, known to the Greeks as Marathos. Its best-known monument is a temple from around the 4th century BC, a court cut into the rock around a pool with a small shrine in the middle; nearby stand funerary towers known as the Maghazil (the spindles).
