A large 19th-century Damascene house built by the merchant Yusuf Anbar, later turned into a state school known as "Maktab Anbar", where many of Syria's public figures studied. Restored, it is now used as a cultural venue and stands in the Old City near Straight Street.

Since 1954 it has housed the Museum of Popular Traditions; it stands by Souq al-Buzuriyah, south of the Umayyad Mosque.
