About
The Church of Saint Simeon Stylites, known as Qal'at Sim'an, was built in the late 5th century around the pillar on which the hermit Simeon lived for decades. It is one of the oldest and largest surviving Byzantine churches: four basilicas meeting around an octagon that holds what is left of the pillar. It is part of the Ancient Villages of Northern Syria, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011.
