A well-preserved Roman temple in the town of al-Dumayr north-east of Damascus, dedicated to Zeus Hypsistos and dating from the 3rd century AD, later turned into a fort. It stands on the old route between Damascus and Palmyra.

Khan al-Nuri is an old caravanserai in al-Qutayfah attributed to Nur al-Din Zengi, called al-Shahid, in the 12th century, and also known as Khan Nur al-Din. It was one of the stops on the old caravan road north of Damascus, close to the Ottoman Khan Sinan Pasha.
