About
Emar is a Bronze Age city on the Euphrates near Maskanah that flourished in the 14th and 13th centuries BC under Hittite rule; thousands of cuneiform tablets were found there. Part of the area was flooded by Lake Euphrates after the Euphrates dam was built.
