About
The Krak des Chevaliers is one of the most famous medieval castles in the world, on a hill commanding the Homs Gap between the coast and the interior; the Knights Hospitaller enlarged it in the 12th and 13th centuries, and the Mamluk sultan Baybars took it in 1271. Together with Saladin's Castle it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2006.
