About
Qal'at Ja'bar is a fortress on a hill that once overlooked the Euphrates valley and, since the Euphrates Dam was built, stands on a peninsula in Lake Euphrates. Imad al-Din Zengi was killed at its walls in 1146, and his son Nur al-Din restored it.
