About
Qal'at Najm is a fortress on the right bank of the Euphrates east of Manbij, built to guard an old river crossing and rebuilt by Nur al-Din Zengi and then the Ayyubids; most of what stands today dates from the early 13th century under al-Zahir Ghazi. Its walls, towers and vaulted passages still stand.
