About
Saladin's Castle, known in the past as Sahyun (Saône), is a fortress on a rocky ridge between two deep ravines east of Latakia, rebuilt by the Crusaders in the 12th century and taken by Saladin in 1188. It is famous for its moat cut into the rock and the tall rock needle that once carried its bridge, and together with the Krak des Chevaliers it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2006.
