About
Tell Kazel is an archaeological mound in the Akkar plain by the al-Abrash river, about 18 km south of Tartus, generally identified with the city of Sumur (Simyra) named in the Amarna letters. Excavations have uncovered a Late Bronze Age temple and Iron Age and Hellenistic layers.
