About
Ugarit is an ancient Canaanite city on the mound of Ras Shamra north of Latakia that flourished in the Bronze Age until its destruction around 1185 BC. Tablets in the Ugaritic alphabet, one of the oldest known alphabets, were found there; its remains include the royal palace, temples and houses.
