About
Jabal Says is an extinct volcano in the Syrian Desert about 100 km east of Damascus. At its foot lie the remains of an Umayyad palace built between 707 and 715 and attributed to Caliph al-Walid I, beside seasonal water that gathers next to the crater. The site also has an early Arabic inscription of the 6th century naming the Ghassanid king al-Harith ibn Jabala.
